Michael Polakowski

Michael Polakowski (1994) maakt gebruik van acrylverf en airbrush om stilistisch geabstraheerde en dromerige landschappen te creëren. Gevestigd in Detroit, Michigan, laat hij zich sterk inspireren door zijn omgeving. Zijn werk trok onder andere aandacht van publicaties zoals Juxtapoz, New American Painting en booooooom. In 2024 zal Polakowski deelnemen aan een kunstenaarsresidentie aan het Vermont Studio Center.

Voor COVA Art Gallery presenteert Polakowski de werken “Romance is Dead” en “News to Me”. Polakowski: “De afbeeldingen in de tentoonstelling zijn gebaseerd op fragmenten van opgevangen gesprekken. Ik geniet van de universele aard van deze verhalen, waarin een romance implodeert of twee vrienden geen gemeenschappelijke grond kunnen vinden. Het lijkt alsof we allemaal onszelf kunnen herkennen in deze schilderijen, vandaar mijn keuze om de gezichten van de onderwerpen weg te laten.”

For COVA Art Gallery, Polakowski presents the works “Romance is Dead” and “News to Me.” Polakowski explains: “The images in the exhibition are based on snippets of overheard conversations. I appreciate the universal nature of these stories, where a romance implodes or two friends can’t find common ground. It seems like we can all recognize ourselves in these paintings, hence my choice to omit the faces of the subjects.”
